The building completed in 1978 and situated on a steep slope, already shows the great importance of the outdoor space, which was to become a defining component of Silvia Gmür's work.
The basement, built in solid construction, supports a wooden structure that is visible throughout the house over several levels.
On the ground floor, the individual living areas flow into one another, creating a generous spatial structure that interlocks visually and spatially with the outside space at various points. Extensive glazing and skylights provide optimal lighting, but also a view of lush greenery or the city of Basel.
The horizontal spatial flow is complemented by an open spatial network in the vertical. Air spaces, galleries and individual constructive elements are staged, allow insights, views and create a spatial complexity.
In contrast to the generous spaces of the daily family get-together are the rather small bedrooms and children's rooms, which are reserved more for retreat than for staying.
