Zollikerberg Hospital New North Wing

The central wing, which dominates the entire complex, is flanked on one side by the west wing and on the other by the east wing. Both wing buildings are surrounded by generous outdoor spaces on the south side. 
On its north side, the west wing forms an entrance and forecourt with the addition of an operating theatre and emergency wing. From an urban planning point of view the original spatial structure was thrown out of balance with this extension. With the construction of the new operating theatre building a structure will be placed on the north side of the east wing that will rebalance the existing overall situation.

Due to height differences between the north and south sides of the hospital the volume of the two new treatment floors was raised to the level of the ground floor in the central wing.
Raising the structure breaks up the classic building division of base, storey and roof and creates an open, permeable area at the level of the 1st basement storey, which is to be used as a parking area in the future. 

For a large part of the rooms, no direct view is desired due to their use. In order to allow the incidence of natural daylight and the desired view in equal measure the glazed façade elements are supplemented by fixed sun and privacy protection elements.
